The problem with funders is that:

  • In general, they just don’t write blank checks.
  • They don’t know that your organization has a strong impact.
  • They sometimes confuse your organization with others that have similar names and/or that conduct similar work.

Annoying, right?

I’ve been fortunate to be on both sides of the grantseeking and grantmaking aisle, and what I know for sure is that funders can’t read our minds. Helping them see what we see and understand what we live, eat and breathe every day is our job as grantwriters.

How do we do that?

Well, Lisa’s blog on the three most important questions to ask when developing a grant proposal will certainly help.

If you don’t have a grantwriter at your disposal or feel that your time is better spent cultivating relationships, you could consider joining the many organizations that trust JVA to make sure that their grant proposals show why their work is important, and why their organization is the best to carry it on.
